How time is flying!  We are now at the half way mark and the Greenie Land St. Patricks Festival float is very much coming to life.  It has turned into a fantastic community effort and we cannot thank people enough in particular our amazing volunteer float builders Denis Brown and Kay Woodcock.

The 'Celebration of Growth' Greenieland St. Patricks Festival float is slowly but surely coming together.  It will comprise of a large paper-mache Oak like tree as the entry point into Greenie Land, adorned with representations of the progression between winter/spring and summer/autumn and surrounded by characters from our 100% Irish children's book Gordon Goes to Greenieland.

We are blown away by the level of community spirit that has developed for our project!  What an amazing group of people the Galway Men’s Shed Group (Cumann na bhFear) are - offering use of their workspace and endless advice/help.

The float is being made at the Sandy Road VEC Adult Education Centre with students helping out in any way they can. In particular they are making Greenie Land items such as an oversized butterfly, ladybird reading, Greenie Land signs and helped out with the float base.

GMIT Art College students are also getting stuck in making an oversized squirrel (!) and robin, and will be helping with paper-mache for the Greenie Land tree and painting the Greenie paper-mache mask.

The children and teachers at St John the Apostle Knocknacarra National School (http://cms.knocknacarrans.ie/) are busy making oversized 'GREEN' items to carry on the day and are eagerly learning the Greenie Land theme tune.  Greenie is very much looking forward to visiting the school next week to help the kids learn the Greenie Land theme tune and to read a bit from Gordon Goes to Greenieland.

We are very passionate about connection with nature and hope our Greenie Land float inspires young and old to connect and enjoy, whether it be the decision to take a simple walk or deciding it’s time to start growing your own.

We are working on ideas as to how to adorn the tree, all suggestions are welcome!  Leave us a message with your ideas on facebook see www.facebook.com/greenieland or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

All are welcome to join in with the fun either before or on the day - let us know if you would like to get involved.

Hope to see you on the day!
